Breckenridge was Colorado's first resort to allow snowboarding and since 1984 this resort has pushed the envelope of what it can do to support the progression of the freestyle end of the sport. Reserve your Breckenridge snowboard rentals today!
Breckenridge hosted its first Snowboarding World Cup in 1985 but it was the epic Snowboard Worlds in 1987, which set an indelible mark on the establishment of snowboarding across the planet by bringing park and pipe riding to the masses. They became the first resort in the world to maintain a permanent (all season long) half-pipe; previously all half-pipes where built just for competitions and torn down.
In 2000, Breckenridge became the first resort in the country to buy a Super Dragon allowing for the creation of the Super Pipe. Today, the Freeway Terrain Park and Super Pipe are legendary and host several events a year that draw the best professional riders and photographers.
The Freeway Terrain Park is constantly at the top of magazine and reader polls and has won many accolades throughout the years and it is because of the Breckenridge Park crew and their dedication to innovative design and feedback from the Breckenridge Team riders. The Park is on Peak 8 and starts off with a series of banked turns and rolls at seventeen degrees and then it drops into a section of large park style jumps, spines and table tops and finishes with a large table jump for big, big air. The total park vertical drop is 500 feet.
Breckenridge has three terrain parks and two half-pipes to accommodate riders in of all abilities; the Freeway is for the extreme, intermediate riders will enjoy The Gold King park, and new riders can start on the Swingers Terrain Park. With Breckenridge altitude and snow making abilities, the park is often the first to open for the season and the last to close.
Breckenridge has more than the extreme park. Its tree runs are uniquely spaced for great turns and many are dotted with tree slides, rainbow logs and smaller kickers. A lot of Peak 10 has steep alpine terrain that mimics back country conditions while Peaks 6 and 7 are mild and well groomed.
